About 1 hour and 15 minutes from Clos Saint-Gilles, set off to explore the D-Day Beaches and the many places of remembrance which bear witness to 6 June 1944. An unmissable excursion to gain a better understanding of Normandy’s history and discover its exceptional heritage.

The major D-Day sites

From the Manche to Calvados, the D-Day beaches stretch for nearly 80 kilometres along the coast. They include, in particular, Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, Sword Beach as well as Pointe du Hoc. These places are home to numerous relics, monuments and memorial sites linked to the events of 1944.

Nearby, the Pointe du Hoc offers a landscape marked by the traces of the fighting and the remains of the former German battery. The area also includes the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, on the hills above Omaha Beach.

A day exploring history and heritage

As well as the beaches, there are several museums and places of remembrance offer a chance to explore the Battle of Normandy in greater depth. A great idea for a day out from the Clos Saint-Gilles holiday cottages and guest rooms to combine cultural discovery, heritage and the landscapes of the Normandy coast.

The D-Day Beaches, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Since July 2026, the D-Day Beaches, Normandy 1944, have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This designation covers the five D-Day beaches as well as Pointe du Hoc, which are key landmarks in the history and remembrance of the D-Day landings.

Picturesque B&B with incredible hosts!
Tatiana and Thibault's bed and breakfast exceeded our expectations. The rooms and shared communal area were extremely tidy and well cared for and the property itself is breathtaking. There are several paths to walk through beautifully manicured gardens, a view of Monte Michel Street, and several sitting areas and patio sets for guests to relax and enjoy a glass of wine after a day of exploring.

Two perfect nights. Our room (Pivoine) was large, bright and elegant, with quality bedding. The breakfasts were copious, home-cooked and varied. Thibault and Tatiana are really pleasant and attentive, it's a family place! Many thanks to them!

Thibault and Tatiana not only impress with their vast, beautiful garden, but also with a breakfast made with ingredients from the garden. What's more, her tips on travelling and eating in the area are extremely useful!

A magical stay!
We had the most wonderful stay at Le Clos Saint - Gilles and can't recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed as old friends rather than guests. Tatiana and Thibault are among the kindest, warmest and most generous hosts we have ever met.
